Dr. Mohammad Shtayyeh, member of Fateh Central Committee, called the UK, on Tuesday Nov 27th ,to support the idea of holding an international conference to end the Israeli occupation in cooperation with the European partners that the President Mahmoud Abbas “Abu Mazen” called for in his speech at the Security Council.

During his meeting in Jerusalem with the British Minister of International Trade Affairs, Liam Fox, joined by the British General Consul Philip Hill, Shtayyeh asked for the recognition of a sovereign State of Palestine over its resources and borders. He stressed on the importance of putting pressure on the Israeli government on ending the occupation that has been ongoing for the past seven decades.

Shtayyeh enlightened the Minister of the Israeli violations of the International law, agreements, and signed treaties through selective implantation of the selected articles,  in addition to the land confiscations, expansion of Israeli settlements and the limited access to the natural resources.

Shtayyeh beckoned to open up the British Markets to the Palestinian products as means to further raise the ability of the Palestinian economy to detach from the economic dependency imposed by the occupation on the Palestinian people.

He also pointed out the unemployment percentage, within the Palestinian college graduates, that reached 52%. Shtayyeh called for creating job opportunities through encouraging foreign investments in Palestine, creating business accelerators and supporting small projects.

Shtayyeh emphasized that the Israeli measures and economic restrictions go hand in hand with the idea of colonial expansionism; aiming to control the largest amount of land with the smallest amount of population, by suffocating them and forcing them to emigrate.

He added: “Israel destroyed the Paris Protocol through selectively implementing its clauses, in addition to the closures and barriers that restricted the flow of Palestinian goods and services, turning trading into a one way street.”

Dr. Shtayyeh asked the guest to provide any possible support in preparing the Palestinian customs book and finalizing the Palestinian book of specifications. He called for the support of British Palestinian partnerships through business men from both countries.

Shtayyeh emphasized on the importance of pressuring Israel in order to block its systematic practices over the Palestinian people.
