Palestinian development projects to receive $62 million from Germany

Ramallah – Palestine Economy Portal

Palestinian development projects to receive $62.5 million from Germany in the West Bank and Gaza Strip in 2019.

Under a joint agreement between Palestinian government and Germany, the money that was allocated by Germany will be distributed among 3 sectors: sustainable economic development, infrastructure such as water projects and local governance, including projects with municipalities, in addition to projects carried out by civil society organizations as told by Klaus Kramer; the head of division in the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development.

40% of the total allocations will be dedicated to Gaza due to the severe humanitarian situation, aiming for the treatment of wastewater and sewage projects.

The German Representative to the Palestinian Authority, Christian Clages, assured that “Germany has proven for over 30 years that it is a reliable partner to be depended on even in the most difficult times.”

Overall German aid to Palestine has reached €1.15 billion ($1 billion) with last year’s contribution amounting to €53 million ($60.2 million).
