CPI decreases during June 2019

The Consumer Price Index in Palestine recorded a decrease of 0.48% during June 2019, compared to May 2019, by 1.26% in Gaza Strip and 0.34% in the West Bank, along with a slight decrease of 0.01% in Jerusalem.

The main reason for the CPI decrease in Palestine goes back to the decrease in Fresh Vegetable prices by 14.30%, Egg prices by 9.39%, dried vegetables by 8.00%, fresh fruits by 4.31%, tuberculosis by 3.34%, in spite of the increase in the prices of fresh meat by 2.11%, live fresh fish, chilled or frozen, by 1.96%, prices of grain flour by 1.25%, and chicken prices by 0.86%.

When comparing the prices between June 2019 to June 2018, the data shows an increase in the CPI in Palestine by 1.39%; 1.87% in Jerusalem, 1.02% in both West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Compared to the data of the first half of 2019, the CPI increased by 1.41% compared to the same period of last year; it increased by 1.78% in West Bank, 1.08% in Jerusalem, and 0.52% in Gaza Strip.

 

CPI at the level of the Palestinian Territories

The CPI recorded a decrease by 1.26% in Gaza Strip during June 2019 compared to May 2019. This decrease occurred mainly because of the decrease in the prices of fresh vegetables by 16.40%, egg prices by 14.16%, tuberculosis by 7.22%, fresh fruits by 7.00%, dried vegetables by 6.51%, fresh chicken by 6.35%, Gas by 2.32%, in spite of the increase in liquid fuels used as fuel for cars "Petrol" by 7.96%, prices of “Diesel” by 5.98%, prices of live fresh fish, chilled or frozen, by 3.12%, prices of rice by 1.22%, prices of fresh meat by 1.04%.

The CPI also recorded a decrease in the West Bank by 0.34% in June 2019, compared to May 2019, because of the decrease in the prices of fresh vegetables by 14.10%, dried vegetables by 9.79%, prices of egg by 7.99%, fresh fruits by 3.57%, tuberculosis by 1.66%, in spite of the increase in chicken prices by 4.13%, an increase in fresh meat prices by 3.02%, and prices of grain flour by 2.10%.

The CPI recorded a slight decrease in Jerusalem J1* by 0.01% during June 2019, compared to May 2019. The decrease occurred because of a decrease in Fresh vegetables by 15.36%, dried vegetables by 11.27%, fresh fruit by 5.94%, “Diesel” by 5.51%, fresh chicken by 2.09%, “Petrol” by 1.39%, fresh meat by 1.35%. In spite of an increase in the prices of live fresh fish, frozen or chilled, by 3.95%, egg prices by 3.25%, vegetable oils by 1.49%, and rice prices by 1.46%.
