The chosen engineering idea has been put forward by a coalition of Jordanian Dar Al Omran with the (John COOPER British) company and the Centre for Palestinian Engineering and Planning, at a cost of nearly two and a half million dollars, after a high-level competition with participation of four regional, local and international companies specialized in business consulting to design Cancer hospitals.

D. Shtayyeh said that PECDAR took on the challenge of implementing the project in record time, and began work on the project immediately after President Mahmoud Abbas laid the foundation stone at the site. However, he pointed to the magnitude of the project cost estimated at 250 million, and the need to work on two parallel tracks: implementation, and fundraising.

He added that the Board of Trustees of Khalid Hassan Cancer Center launched a campaign to collect donations for the center and was able to collect good amounts that will be utilized in the next phase of the establishment of the center.

Shtayyeh pointed out that the Islamic Development Bank pays great attention to the vital projects such as support of education, health and all that contributes to supporting the steadfastness of the Palestinians in the face of occupation policies in all aspects of life.

Shtayyeh stressed on the importance of the establishment of the center, which will reduce medical referrals that consumes the government's budget. More importantly, it will end the suffering of the patient in going through occupation barriers and complexities of getting a medical referral, and will reduce the suffering of the families of cancer patients as well.

Khaled Hassan Cancer Center will be established on an area of 7,800 square meters in the area of Surda, near Ramallah, and with a capacity in the first phase of 200 beds. The center will include all sections relating to examination and diagnosis of the disease, treatment and bone marrow.
