Licensing 12 factories expected to provide 500 new job opportunities

The Ministry of National Economy announced that it has licensed 12 factories with a total capital of $ 4.7 million over the past month.

It is expected that, at the direct establishment of the factories in the governorates of Hebron, Bethlehem, Nablus, Ramallah, Al-Bireh, and Jerusalem, the factories will provide more than 500 direct and indirect job opportunities.

The food products industry accounted for the largest share at a rate of 25.0% of the total number of factories, followed by the beverage industry and other non-metallic minerals industry (brick and tile factories, sidewalks, concrete factories and stone saws) with the same percentage 16.7%. As for the capital value, the other non-metallic mineral industry accounted for the proportion The largest by 39.4%, followed by the manufacture of basic metals (the manufacture of other metal products) (the steel industry, aluminum factories, and precious metal casting and manufacturing) with 19.7%.

The number of new factories licensed for 2019 increased by 3.0% compared to 2018, when 138 new factories were licensed, with a capital value of $ 131.4 million.

The industrial sector contributes to 13.2% of the GDP of 2018, with a total value of $ 1.826.3 billion, and this sector occupies about 103,500 workers working in the sectors (food products, drinks, clothing, leather industries, paper products, chemicals, medicine, Structural products, metal and furniture) and other economic activities.

More than 60 companies in the northern and southern governorates that were targeted by the Ministry benefited from the project of modernizing the Palestinian industry, distributed among 5 productive sectors: "Chemical Industries, Paper Industries, Plastic Industries, and Metal Industries."

Funded by the French Development Agency (AFD), the Ministry of National Economy is implementing a survey of industrial establishments. Within the industry modernization project, which the Statistics Authority collects and provides field data for all operating industrial establishments that employ five or more workers on a sample of about four thousand and two hundred (4200) workers according to International Classification of Economic Activities (ISIC4), which is part of the Enterprise Census 2017 database.
